The 88th Academy Awards | Favourite Looks

The internet has been buzzing over the past few days with news regarding the recent 88th Academy Awards: 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and their astounding 6 wins out of 10 nominations, Stacey Dash's unexpected appearance, Leo winning his long-awaited, well-deserved Oscar (when we found out, everyone around me leapt up and started cheering, I kid you not)!

Between Chris Rock speaking out on diversity, Lady Gaga's beautiful performance of 'Til It Happens to You', and Jacob Tremblay's utter adorableness, stars showcased all sorts of beautiful gowns on the red carpet. Here are a few of my favourites!

1. Hannah Bagshawe and Eddie Redmayne in Alexander McQueen

Honestly, when have they ever disappointed? By this point I am probably biased because they have appeared in many of my favourites, but, to follow Scotty P's mantra, I have "no ragrets". Like last year's ceremony, they came, posed, and conquered. Hannah Bagshawe always manages to amaze me with her effortless style, and enough can't be said about Eddie Redmayne in a tux. They are everyone's couple goals, and true Hollywood royalty.

2. Alicia Vikander in Louis Vitton

I'm not a big fan of warm colours, but this is something else. Alicia Vikander totally rocked this twinkling LV creation, giving off sunny vibes on the red carpet. While the bubbled high-low shape of the gown says 'princess', the embellishments take it to another level. I have yet to watch The Danish Girl but after watching the trailer yesterday, I am determined to do so. Congratulations on the Best Supporting Actress win!

3. Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein

First, a very necessary PA: Brooklyn is incredible and you need to see it. Now back to the look.

Saoirse Ronan is devastatingly gorgeous, especially in her custom Calvin Klein. Everyone has been comparing her to the Little Mermaid, but I like to think her more of a glittering, Slytherin-esque goddess. If looks could kill, hers would slaughter you like a basilisk (ayyyyy). From the sheer skirt you can see that the sequins are arranged in a swirly pattern, reminiscent of the backdrop of van Gogh's 'The Starry Night'. Very, very nice!

A short but sweet compilation of my favourite looks from the Oscars. What were your favourite looks of the night?

Lots of love! xx

Golden Globes 2016 | Favourite Looks

Another awards show, another set of looks to review! Award season kicked off with the Golden Globes, held at The Beverly Hilton in California on January 10th. The awards ceremony honoured the best American films, actors, and everything in between. A multitude of stars attended the event, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Lady Gaga, and Amy Schumer.

*all images sourced from Getty Images

Normally I have 4-5 favourites per event, but a slightly bigger cluster of celebrities really caught my eye. My personal favourites include Jenna Dewan Tatum's gorgeous Zuhair Murad creation, Melissa Benoist's fresh, spring-y Monique Lhuillier ensemble, and Saoirse Ronan's understated yet elegant Saint Laurent gown.

The list does not end there! As usual, Zendaya slayed the red carpet in a deep-red and layered Marchesa dress. Another beautiful look was Emilia Clarke's caped Valentino; as our beloved Khaleesi, she definitely looked every inch the regal queen she plays! Fellow GoT costar Natalie Dormer donned a scarlet gown, looking exquisitely fierce.

Now, I don't usually review men's fashion as I personally feel that tuxes look more or less the same to me (sorry!). However, I do want to mention Rami Malek in Dior; the Mr Robot star's suit stood out to me from the collection of red carpet looks. Very suave!

August Favourites

Hello all!

How are you all doing? I'm only two weeks into the school year, and frankly, I'm already exhausted! Between school work, extra-curricular, working on dance, and attempting to stick to my workout schedule (key word here: attempting), life has been pretty busy recently. I definitely need to work on getting enough sleep each night...

Aside from all that business, yes, we have finally entered September. Check out my favourites from last month below!

Teen Choice Awards 2015 | Favourite Looks

This year's TCA's were held at the University of Southern California's Galen Centre in LA. A multitude of stars were in attendance, including the cast of Pretty Little Liars, Ellen DeGeneres, and Five Seconds of Summer. Hosted by Josh Peck, Gina Rodriguez, and Ludacris, the event featured a dazzling mix of performances, and awards were presented to the elite of the elite. In today's post I'll be sharing my favourite looks from the TCA red carpet!

1. Lea Michele in Monique Lhuillier

When I first saw Lea Michele, my mind directly went straight to her hair; it's cute but polished at the same time. Her dress is fun, with the red and the blue, but dainty like a china plate. The red heels totally tie the entire outfit together! Lea Michele has been killing it lately with her fitness regime documented on Instagram. She just looks toned, relaxed, and happy!

2. Little Mix

I am still floored by their TCA performance. ICYMI, they went from adorable nerds to absolute babes on stage while performing their new hit single that's been on repeat on my phone, 'Black Magic'. I haven't seen such an amazing on-stage costume change since Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' set back in 2013 for the BRIT Awards! I love, love, love their outfits; each represent their own styles, but together they define 'squad goals'.

As I still can't get their performance out of my head, watch it here!

3. Grace Helbig

Whoo, Youtube represent! What makes Grace Helbig's dress stand out is the simplicity of the cut (those side cutouts though *heart eyes*) paired with that eye-catching neon pastel coral pink. I've always known her as the funny girl on Youtube, but recently I've noticed that her style is on point!

4. Peyton and Spencer List

Peyton and Spencer List look too good to actually describe. Peyton rocks her patterned suit and cutout crop top, and I now am on the lookout for a jacket similar to Spencer's. They both pull of their outfits so incredibly well, and as a pleb I bow down to them!

Of course, with every set of amazing looks comes a few that aren't so great. I'm not quite sure about Nash Grier and the Janoskians, to be honest with you... :/

And those were my favourite looks from the 2015 TCAs! What were your favourite looks? Let me know in the comments down below, and I'll see you next time! x

Paint Splatters and Majestic Waves

I first spotted Candice Patton's outfit for the CW Network's 2015 Upfront on the The Flash insta, and it is absolutely stunning.

A photo posted by The Flash (@cwtheflash) on

The separates are totally different in style, but they work so well with each other. I'm loving the skirt; it has a unique shape to it, and it reminds me of ocean waves. Gosh, I'm missing the beach. Candice Patton accessorised with a basic white clutch and minimalistic black heels to compliment her impossible-coloured ensemble. Oh, and her hair and makeup are fab by the way!

The event took place in New York at the London Hotel on 14th May (last night in HK?). The Upfronts are annual and from what I've read, it takes place for the network to go through their schedule, show us what's coming back, unveil new shows, all that jazz. Stars from a number of CW shows were in attendance, including The Flash, Arrow, and The Originals.

Met Gala 2015 | Favourite Looks

Hey guys!

I am back with another Favourite Looks posts! I originally post on Sundays but a. I've fallen late on that, and b. pictures of the Gala have been all over literally everywhere I look.

First thing's first [I'm the realest]: what is the Met Gala? I am not ashamed to say I had no idea what it was until it came to the time of writing this post; I assumed it was one of those fancy-schmancy events which A-listers attended and you read about the day after in the news. After typing up on Google, 'what is the Met Gala doing some research, I've found that the Met Gala is a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institution. Pretty cool!

The theme this year was "China: Through the Looking Glass", which I thought was very interesting since a lot of events don't exactly have themed dress codes. I had no idea what was coming, and if you read back on it, there were a lot of looks that were out there! Here are a few of my favourites:

1. Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi

DAMMMNNNN. For one, Zendaya kills it in heels. Next, I love all the reds and golds contrasting against the black, with the embroidery and matching accessories. She always looks on point (have you seen her Instagram?), and the Gala was no exception. This may be the inner textiles student in me, but I would love to see the construction of the skirt and train. Her tiara and armband are to die for, but let's be real, I don't think any of us will ever be able to pull off such intricate pieces as well as she did. An A* for sure.

2. Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe in Valentino

To be honest, I'm still not over Hannah Bagshawe's Oscars dress, which was a stunner by the way. Her white gown is much more minimalistic, but still beautiful - the black panelling at the sides give it an extra kick. And of course, Eddie Redmayne is just dashing as usual. I know I've said this before, but I'll repeat it again: goals!

3. Hailee Steinfeld in Michael Kors

My first thought was that's quite Taylor Swift-y. The gown is so simple but elegant, and the red definitely screams boss. The gold accessories were really well paired; I've always thought that matching red and gold would resemble a traditional Chinese wedding dress (not a bad thing, but it's probably not the style you're going for), but it is clear that I am proven wrong.

4. Wei Tang in Burberry Prorsum

I don't know what it is, but I've recently been loving black lining. It gives such an effortlessly elevated, modern vibe to clothing. On this gown, it downplays the sparkle slightly so we're not all blinded by all those jewels. A very nice contrast!

And those were my favourite looks from 2015's Met Gala. Two things before I end this post:
  • The newborn Princess has been named Charlotte! I was so hoping she would be named Victoria, after Victoire Weasley and all that Harry potter fandom ish. If you've been on Tumblr for the past two weeks or so, people have been buzzing about the Victoire-Princess birthday coincidence. I personally don't think it was a coincidence, but was J.K. Rowling's magic that blessed us all!
  • How are you guys doing with exams and prep? I've got two more weeks until my mocks, and I'm stressing over the Schlieffen Plan and kinetic energy. Gosh, there are still a ton of things to revise for Science, but nothing seems to stay in my brain :(

Hope you are all well. I'll see you soon! x

Ed Sheeran Concert + Concert OOTD

Hey guys!

I'm here with another sneaky little midweek post :) Yesterday my friends and I went to an Ed Sheeran concert! I vlogged parts of the day and the video is now up on my channel.

It was seriously a fantastic concert. The only other concert I've ever been to is a Taylor Swift one when she came in 2010. However this time I felt more in the spirit because it was an all-standing show. The atmosphere was crazy, people were very hyped up, and I loved every moment of it!

Dressing for the concert was, to be honest, a little hard. I had to be comfortable, be able to dance, and had to be covered up as at night the temperature dropped to 16 ºc! Here's what I wore:

Top - online
Pants - H&M
Shoes - Toms
Bag - Forever 21
Sunglasses - Forever 21
Rings - H&M
Hand chain - Accessorize
(I forgot to include it in the pictures but I brought along with me a grey hoodie from H&M)

I'm quite enjoying doing vlogs at the moment. I want to know what you guys think of them. Do you like them? Despise them? Let me know down in the comments!

That's all for today and I'll see you later x

The BRIT Awards 2015 | Favourite Looks

Hey there!

I thought I would do another 'Favourite Looks' post since The BRIT Awards took place earlier this week, and some of the looks were very nice indeed! I don't actually watch the show because with all the time differences I can never tell when it's on. But, I do like to catch the fashion and see who sported what on the red carpet. Here are my favourite looks!

1. George Ezra in ?
His songs have been stuck in my head and on repeat for most of February. I absolutely love his voice; it's so unique and his vocal range is pretty impressive. All of his live performances are so good! He went simple for The BRITs but was very classy in a monochrome suit and button up.

2. Karlie Kloss in Tom Ford
Going along the monochrome theme, Karlie Kloss stunned in a figure-hugging Tom Ford piece with cutouts at the collarbone. Again, simple but gorgeous. Makeup was simple and that directed the attention to her dress.

3. Grace Chatto in ?
I love her pink hair. Just had to get that out there first! Paired well with her monochrome outfit (hmm a trend?) and daringly pulled off with her bold red lips.

4. Ella Henderson in Katie Ermilio
Ok, it's official, monochrome was a favourite on the red carpet that day! Ella Henderson opted for a long sleeved dress with a long tail, accessorising with a necklace-body chain piece.

There have been many comments on Ella Henderson's losing face when she lost to Paloma Faith for the British Female Solo Artist Award. I personally think people shouldn't be so hard on Ella. I mean, who wouldn't be disappointed? It's a completely normal thing to do and some people just want to complicate things. Nonetheless, Paloma Faith totally deserved her award and congrats to the other nominees as well!

5. Dan Howell and Phil Lester
I couldn't resist including them in the list. Phil's plaid suit was really snazzy, and Dan kept it simple in monochrome (definitely a trend!). Love the silver lining on Dan's blazer, it was a nice little touch.

The 87th Academy Awards | Favourite Looks

Hey there!

It's unusual for me to do a midweek post, but early this week The Oscars took place and there are many things to talk about! I know, I'm a little late on this but better late than never, right?

Wow. There were so many gorgeous looks on the red carpet that night and I am in awe of all of them. Different people stunned in a variety of dresses and tuxes, and the admiration is real. How are they all so beautiful?! I'm not too familiar with all the designers and their pieces showcased during the show but I'm just going to roll with it. Here are a few of my favourite looks!

1. Chloe Grace Moretz in Miu Miu
Chloe, of course, is on my list. Normally a floral pattern like that can resemble curtains, but with that cut she rocks that dress! And that ear cuff? YES. She adds an edgy touch to her overall modern vintage look. Love!

2. Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent
I thought her dress was a really pretty piece. It had a slightly prom-y feel to it, but was sophisticated at the same time. I liked how she kept makeup and accessories minimal; the focus was on the jewels and the sharp neckline.

3. Emma Stone in Elie Saab
Lately I've been seeing a lot of Elie Saab on my Tumblr dashboard and all the designs are amazing. It's no surprise here that Emma Stone looks absolutely beautiful (when does she ever disappoint?) and I love the fun orange of her her lips paired with the slightly green-tinted embellished piece.

4. Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe in Alexander McQueen
I am absolutely in love with Hannah Bagshawe's dress! The cut of the dress is simple but the embellishments take it up to a whole new level. Eddie Redmayne compliments her perfectly in a midnight blue tux. #onfleek #relationshipgoals

By the way, can we just talk about how adorable Eddie Redmayne was when giving his Oscar speech? AWWWWW!

5. Lady Gaga in Alaia
Very Glinda the Good Witch-esque, I think, but in a fabulously sleek way. Her 'The Sound of Music' tribute was incredibly executed and I enjoyed it very much.

On a completely different note, Lady Gaga's trumpet tattoo fascinates me so much. It's so edgy and cool, yet classy and elegant.

I have so many more favourites, like the very suave Chris Pratt, Viola Davis in her Zac Posen piece, and Zoe Saldana's nude Versace dress, but if I continue on I will never be able to finish this post; and to think, there are still the Oscars after party looks! Anyways, I'm no fashion critic but very nice looks from the red carpet this year.

I truly enjoyed writing this post; a nice little birthday post for me to write today! Today's my birthday and I turn 15 this year. Thank you to all the lovely people who wished me a happy birthday; I hope you all have a nice day :-)

See you later! x

DIY: Heat Transfers

Hello peeps!

How are you all doing? As I'm writing this I'm plugged in to Fall Out Boy's 'American Beauty/American Psycho'. Wonderful album! We're approaching February now and I'm excited for two things: Chinese New Year and my birthday! January was nice but, I have to say, a bit of a slow start to the year; it mainly consisted of my favourite TV shows coming back (as mentioned in my latest update and January Favourites) from the winter hiatus. I'm eager to see what February brings!

Today's post is a DIY using heat transfers. I have been looking for it since forever, and I was beyond ecstatic to have found it. It was my first time using them and I was quite happy with the outcome.

oh hey there Sheldon

Let's get going!

You will need:

  • heat transfer paper
  • a printer
  • Microsoft Word or any other alternative
  • an iron
  • a plain light-coloured tote/pouch

To start off I purchased my transfer paper in Mong Kok East, in an art store called Art Supplies Professional. There were five sheets in the packet and it costed me $65. A little pricey but when split between all the design possibilities, not that bad.

1. Open up a doc and on it paste in your designs. I created the 'Professional Fangirl' text myself with one of the default fonts, and I found the The Flash logo on Google. Use the functions to size your design to scale.

ignore the 'peasants' thing, it was for a present :-)

2. From here you'll want to follow the instructions that come with the paper. On my packet it told me to flip all the images. On Word you do this by right clicking < Format Shape < 3-D Rotation. On where it says 'X' change the 0° to 180°.

3. This is optional but you may want to print a copy of your design on normal paper, just to make sure everything fits alright on your tote/pouch.

4. Print out your design with the heat transfer paper.

5. Cut your designs out as close to its lines as possible.

6. Depending on your heat transfer paper, you may get different instructions; my packet said to turn the iron on high heat. Place the design, front facing down, onto your pouch/tote and iron for a minute or so, making sure the heat is spread evenly out.

7. For a shiny finish on the design, immediately peel the backing paper before it cools. For a matte finish, peel the paper after it cools.

You are done!

I decided to go for a The Flash design to display my love for the show and Grant Gustin. I mentioned it all in my January favourites; watch it here! The 'Professional Fangirl' design is to tell the world that yes, I am a fangirl and if I have any fangirl fits it is perfectly normal!

From my experience with heat transfer paper, I learnt the hard way that the fabric you're ironing on has to be smooth. If not, the design cracks and starts to peel. Just a warning peeps!

If you've enjoyed this post, don't be shy to leave a comment down below. I would love to hear what you guys have to say :-)

That is all for today and I'll see you next week! x

DIY: Jewelled Beanie

Happy Sunday!

I've held this post back for so long since the weather hasn't been up for it, but it's now the first week into December and I think it's time. Today I have for you a jewelled beanie DIY, perfect to jazz up a basic winter bundled-up outfit whilst still keeping you nice and warm. I found these earrings on a sale rack during my trip to Japan, and I immediately fell for these eye-catching jewels. The earrings overall weren't exactly my style so I came up with this DIY.

You will need:
1. a beanie - found mine at Monki
2. jewels - this can be from broken pieces of jewellery or individual jewels
3. fabric adhesive
*optional* needle and thread, and wire cutters

Let's begin!

1. Detach your jewels from any chains or clasps. Take your jewels and lay them out on the edge of the beanie. Your aim here is to make sure they line the fold.

2. Glue down the jewels once you have positioned them in the correct places. I used F-6000 as I seem to have misplaced my bottle of E-6000, which works just as well.

3. You can stop here and just wait for a few hours for the glue to dry or for extra security sew the jewels onto the beanie.

4. You are done!

Another simple DIY for a chilled and chilly Sunday! These beanies are so easy to decorate and they make the perfect Christmas gift. You can use a beanie and jewels of the same colour, or use contrasting colours to make a statement. I'm thinking for my next beanie I could use a dark grey beanie with some mint jewels.

This week has been a rest week for me as I caught a cold. My nose is super chapped from all the blowing into tissues, and my skin is ridiculously dry. Boo :( I definitely need me some ultra hydrating cream or lotion to fix all that!

That's all from me today, have a good day xx

Japan Haul

Hey guys :)

Last week I went to Osaka with my family for term break and I went shopping there. We visited a few cool places like Tokyu Hands (up till the trip I had been calling it Tokyo Hands) and Shinsaibashi. The shopping bug struck me and I couldn't help myself because I, like most others, am a hard-core shopper and consumer of... things.

Before I start I would like to say I am in no way showing off about what I have purchased. Just wanted to clear that up!

Starting off with the most exciting purchase: a polaroid printer. I decided to purchase this because the day we went the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the exposure went crazy on all my polaroid pictures due to the sun. With the printer, you can use your phone to take and pick the photos to print. The outcome is a high-def polaroid that maintains the vintage quality of polaroid cameras.

Another exciting purchase: an iPod nano. I really needed an iPod to store my growing music collection and my phone was running out of storage (curse you mysterious Other storage that I can't get rid of!). Space grey seemed like a nice colour for the iPod so I went with that. It's such a funny little electronic, so different to the iPod nanos of the past. Truthfully I prefer the 4th or 5th generation nanos but unfortunately they don't sell that anymore.

'Midnight Kiss' on repeat!

Japan is basically Stationery Wonderland. In Y5 I was seriously obsessed with stationery. I hauled 3-4 pencil cases to school everyday, filled with gel pens, glitter pens, felt tips and other unnecessary bits and bobs. I do like stationery now but I'm not as crazy about it as I was back then. Still, in Japan I had to fight off the urges to buy pens, lead pencils and notebooks. Japan takes stationery to a whole other level. In Hong Kong you get the basics with a few gems. In Japan you are exposed to the whole treasure chest. I luckily managed to restrain myself and did not buy fifteen pens.

L-R: Pilot Acroball, Zebra Colour Flight, Bic ballpoint pen

The same happens with pencil cases. I found this one in Tokyu Hands, and it was slightly less expensive in HK so I justified buying it.

You all know I am a lip balm hoarder. The selection in Japan was incredible but I narrowed it down to two; of course one of them had to be a Baby Lips lip balm (the berry flavoured one with a limited edition Fashion Week tube), the other a mint-scented Shiseido lip balm. The packaging of these two are one point!

A crystal nail file

In Monki I picked up this set of coloured bobby pins. Coloured bobby pins are in right now, and I really like the rose gold ones.

missglamorazzi recently came out with a video on how to style coloured bobby pins so check it out!

Near our hotel was a ginormous Forever 21. My brain nearly shut down with excitement when I got there because it really was a shopper's paradise; it was huge. The decor was also really nice and everything was set up well. I picked up several accessories there because they have a wide range for not that expensive.

These ear cuffs are slightly different to the normal ear cuff. These ones have a part for your standard piercing but than goes up the cartilage. I'm always up for trying new accessory trends because you never know when you'll find one that suits your style. Speaking of accessory trends, I keep seeing the hand band on the internet. Seems pretty cool!

Aside from simple chain necklaces, I have recently started wearing crystal point necklaces. They are so fun and tumblr-y.

I also purchased two sweaters; one a nice, warm rust colour and another one in a grey-tinted mint.

That is all for today's haul! I stayed up late last night to watch 'The First Time' for the first time (heh) so I'm preettyy tired. I'm going to end it here but I'll see you guys next week xx
