How's your Easter going? I'm doing pretty well myself; I'm making sure I get enough time to relax and work. Holidays are meant for us to catch up after all!
I've got a haul for you today! It's my first ever haul video so excuse me if it's a little rusty. Enjoy!
February flew past so quickly, it was only yesterday I realised that I had to complete my monthly favourites! I switched to filming my favourites a few months ago, but I thought I would take it back and write a post for you today. Here's everything I've been loving throughout February!
s
Crossbody from Forever 21 - I picked this bag up during this month, and it quickly became one of my favourite bags. I don't own any other brown bags so I thought it would be nice to purchase. It's the perfect size; small enough as a cross body, and big enough for all the essentials. The design reminded me a little of a Rebecca Minkoff bag, so maybe that's why I like it so much! Urbanears headphones - I bought this pair of headphones last month as a birthday present to myself. The colour is a lot like Essie's 'DJ Play That Song' - a nice bright, jammy purple - and the quality is pretty good. They come in handy when I'm studying or editing a video, because they block most unwanted noise out. Cool Amazon Rain shower gel from Bath and Body Works - After smelling this scent in Dudes, I was hooked. I decided to go for the travel size bottle first to try it out, and I really like it! It smells of coconut and mango, and is very refreshing on the skin. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go back soon and pick up a full size. 'Stand By Your Gun' by George Ezra - This track is sooo addicting; it's been stuck in my head for quite a while now. George Ezra is a pretty amazing artist overall and I love his music! Ed Sheeran - Ever since going to his concert early this month, I now have a much deeper appreciation for his music and songs. I mentioned 'Photograph' last month and a few others previously, but most of March was 'Drunk' and the rest of '+' on repeat. There was definitely a different vibe on his first album and I quite like it. Praise Ginger Jesus! Revlon ColourBurst Laquer Balm in 105 Demure - A very pretty pinky peach shade with a hint of shimmer, this balm is my go-to lip product. It's kind of a 'my lips but better' colour, not too in-your-face, and easy to work with. I've found myself reaching for this every time I go out. Willow Shields on Dancing With the Stars - I find it so cool that there are so many people out there who are younger than me and have achieved amazing things. Willow Shields joined season 20 of DWTS and is so far killing it! She has all the moves down and I'm excited to see how she progresses throughout the season.
How are you all liking the new template? I'm pretty happy with it so far and I hope you are too!
Last week I went to Osaka with my family for term break and I went shopping there. We visited a few cool places like Tokyu Hands (up till the trip I had been calling it Tokyo Hands) and Shinsaibashi. The shopping bug struck me and I couldn't help myself because I, like most others, am a hard-core shopper and consumer of... things.
Before I start I would like to say I am in no way showing off about what I have purchased. Just wanted to clear that up!
Starting off with the most exciting purchase: a polaroid printer. I decided to purchase this because the day we went the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the exposure went crazy on all my polaroid pictures due to the sun. With the printer, you can use your phone to take and pick the photos to print. The outcome is a high-def polaroid that maintains the vintage quality of polaroid cameras.
Another exciting purchase: an iPod nano. I really needed an iPod to store my growing music collection and my phone was running out of storage (curse you mysterious Other storage that I can't get rid of!). Space grey seemed like a nice colour for the iPod so I went with that. It's such a funny little electronic, so different to the iPod nanos of the past. Truthfully I prefer the 4th or 5th generation nanos but unfortunately they don't sell that anymore.
'Midnight Kiss' on repeat!
Japan is basically Stationery Wonderland. In Y5 I was seriously obsessed with stationery. I hauled 3-4 pencil cases to school everyday, filled with gel pens, glitter pens, felt tips and other unnecessary bits and bobs. I do like stationery now but I'm not as crazy about it as I was back then. Still, in Japan I had to fight off the urges to buy pens, lead pencils and notebooks. Japan takes stationery to a whole other level. In Hong Kong you get the basics with a few gems. In Japan you are exposed to the whole treasure chest. I luckily managed to restrain myself and did not buy fifteen pens.
L-R: Pilot Acroball, Zebra Colour Flight, Bic ballpoint pen
The same happens with pencil cases. I found this one in Tokyu Hands, and it was slightly less expensive in HK so I justified buying it.
You all know I am a lip balm hoarder. The selection in Japan was incredible but I narrowed it down to two; of course one of them had to be a Baby Lips lip balm (the berry flavoured one with a limited edition Fashion Week tube), the other a mint-scented Shiseido lip balm. The packaging of these two are one point!
A crystal nail file
In Monki I picked up this set of coloured bobby pins. Coloured bobby pins are in right now, and I really like the rose gold ones.
missglamorazzi recently came out with a video on how to style coloured bobby pins so check it out!
Near our hotel was a ginormous Forever 21. My brain nearly shut down with excitement when I got there because it really was a shopper's paradise; it was huge. The decor was also really nice and everything was set up well. I picked up several accessories there because they have a wide range for not that expensive.
These ear cuffs are slightly different to the normal ear cuff. These ones have a part for your standard piercing but than goes up the cartilage. I'm always up for trying new accessory trends because you never know when you'll find one that suits your style. Speaking of accessory trends, I keep seeing the hand band on the internet. Seems pretty cool!
Aside from simple chain necklaces, I have recently started wearing crystal point necklaces. They are so fun and tumblr-y.
I also purchased two sweaters; one a nice, warm rust colour and another one in a grey-tinted mint.
That is all for today's haul! I stayed up late last night to watch 'The First Time' for the first time (heh) so I'm preettyy tired. I'm going to end it here but I'll see you guys next week xx
We are a week into school and I guess you can say I've survived it! This year I've started carrying binders, and let me tell you, binders are hideously annoying. Yes, I understand they are useful but they just take up TOO MUCH ROOM. Everyday is a struggle to see how I can tetris everything into my locker. If you feel the same pain, just know you aren't alone on this one.
Anyways, going back to today's post. Firstly, if you have not watched 'Guardians of the Galaxy' you need to go out right now and grab tickets for the next one playing, because it is honestly one of the best - if not the best - Marvel movies I have ever seen. I would elaborate more on this but you'll see what I have to say in full in my monthly favourites, which so happens to be next week.
The first outfit is inspired by Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord. His outfits have this retro, laid-back vibe, and he is never seen without his trademark red leather jacket or headphones and walkman.
Next up on the list is Gamora: adopted daughter of Thanos, killer assassin, and gorgeous in green. Her suit consists of all black leather, but we are sadly not living in the Galaxy and full leather is impractical *sad face*
Lastly, Nebula. Although she's a bad guy, she is a seriously kick-ass bad guy. One of the things I was most inspired by was her makeup, and all the layers to it. Looking from her face makeup, there are a lot of hardware components of which the origins are unknown. Oooh, a mystery!
And I am done! All clothing items and accessories are available in Hong Kong (I made sure of it!), or online on websites that ship to Hong Kong. To check for more info on each piece, click the words below each collage. For some reason my blogger template gives me no option to make the click- through links more visible; now you now that they actually are there. Have fun creating these outfits and you can totally change any component if you don't find the exact one :)
That's all for today and I'll talk to you next week xx
So you might have noticed a little change in the title. I have decided to change from Monthly Music Favourites to monthly favourites because I like all kinds of stuff :) I want to talk about beauty products, clothes, apps and books. Obviously I'll still be writing about music, and I'll build it up from there.
Let's begin!
Music
1. 'Brooklyn Baby' by Lana del Rey
'Ultraviolence' came out this month and I really like 'Brooklyn Baby' from it. Lana del Rey presents us with a list of vintage-y, edgy songs. Her music style is one that I've never really come across before, and it's so unique.
2. 'Wicked Games' by The Weekend (HugLife a.k.a. DJ Slink remix)
A while back, a dance group at school performed to this song. They were awesome and the song stuck in my head. Early this month I found it and I was so excited! The singing has a whimsical vibe, but paired with the beat, the song changes from dreamy to edgy.
3. 'Cool Kids' by Echosmith
I learnt about this song off Bethany Mota (Macbarbie07 on YouTube) when she did her monthly favourites. The lyrics to this song are so meaningful and relate-able, and Echosmith is a cool band. It's made up of 4 siblings, ranging from 15 to 21. So young, so talented (and Sydney is absolutely gorgeous♡)!
4. 'Cardiac Arrest' by Bad Suns
This song is insanely catchy, I'm not even kidding. It's fun to sing and dance to, so what's not to love?
Everything else!
1. This brush
This has to be one of the BEST hair brushes I've ever used. Like I said last week, I'm a total sucker for packaging and the colours on this are so cute! It works just as well as a Tangle Teezer, and it's WAY more affordable. I purchased it from Forever 21 last week and I use it everyday *obsessively brushing hairt*
2. This topcoat
I posted about this topcoat a few weeks ago and since then it has become my holy grail topcoat. I painted my nails a few weeks ago and then practiced a solo section on the guitar. Normally, my nails get wrecked by the strings. With this topcoat on, my nails stayed perfect; not a single scratch, even after fingerpicking! I was totally amazed by its topcoat-ness.
3. This bracelet combo
Both of these bracelets are from Forever 21 and they came in separate packages: the one with 'happiness' on it alone and the jeweled one with two other jeweled ones. I like how the bracelets look together because the thick chain contrasts against the daintiness of the other bracelet.
4. My polaroid camera
This camera is the Fujifilm instax mini 7s, purchased from Korea last year (but purchasable in Log On for you HK peeps). This week was the last week of school and I had to bring it with me to the last day. I made new friends this year and we went through so much together (GLEE!), and a polaroid camera is perfect to capture memories. I keep it in this cute little pineapple drawstring I got online.
5. Revlon's new site design
This favourite was super spontaneous. I literally just went on the site a few hours ago and I LOVE IT. The new design is gorgeous, presenting the products to you in a sleek, no-bull format. This favourite is probably one of my strangest but gush about it I will!
I am also super excited for all the new Revlon products and I am hoping they come to Hong Kong!
That's all for my June Favourites. I hope you've enjoyed this post and I'll see you next week!
