DIY: Beaded Quote Bracelet

diy beaded quote bracelet
Summer is *supposedly* ending soon as we drift into September, but if you know anything about Hong Kong you'll know that we don't feel a single breeze until the middle of October. Taking advantage of the still-warm weather and short sleeves, I've created these colourful beaded quote bracelets that make for super cute arm candy!

You will need:
  • 6mm pineapple beads in colours of your choice
  • 5mm metallic pineapple beads
  • round alphabet beads
  • elastic string
  • a ring
  • scissors
diy beaded quote bracelet
s
Let's begin!

1. Lay out your word/phrase/quote. As I'm constantly being inspired by Tumblr culture, I went with 'fangirl'.

diy beaded quote bracelet
s
2. Cut a 30cm strand of elastic string. You probably won't need as much, but it's always best to play it safe in case of any adjustments needed. Tie one end to a ring in a reef knot (a single knot followed by another knot, but with the opposite string looping down), leaving a tail. String on some 6mm beads, a 5mm bead, your phrase, another 5mm bead, and finish with more 6mm beads.

diy beaded quote bracelet
s
3. Once you feel like your bracelet is long enough, undo the reef knot and adjust if necessary. You'll want the number of 6mm beads to be equal on both sides. To try the bracelet on, tie both ends of the string in a single knot and pinch that knot while slipping it onto your wrist.

s
4. Finish everything off by tying both sides of the string with a double knot.

s
I made a Sense8 bracelet because OMFG, that show is mind-blowing; a 'whatevs' bracelet for those 'meh' days; a 'fangirl' one, and a 'Maximoff' one in homage to the ever-gorgeous, amazing Maximoff twins (not going to lie, I'm still bitter about Pietro's death).

This DIY is totally customisable, from the phrase you choose to the colours of the beads. Go to town on this one, and flaunt your _____ pride!

Whee, that's all from me today! Hopefully I'll get my August favourites up on the channel next week. In the meantime, check out my channel here and my other links on the sidebar.

See you soon! x

I've Been Thinking Too Much | 10 Things

s
One. I stayed up late last night to an ungodly hour (into the AM if you're wondering) and watched Marie Antoinette, directed by Sophia Coppola. Whew, what an extravaganza of a movie! Marie Antoinette's frivolous lifestyle makes me wonder a. how did nobody point out that fact that she was wasting millions earlier, and b. did she not get tired of wearing all those dresses and wigs. I like how the movie was a historical film, yet it was refreshingly modern, what with the snappy, guitar-filled score. Oh, and now I am craving all sorts of desserts; the Ladurée macaroons featured in one scene looked divine. It's a wonder Marie Antoinette didn't get any cavities from her constant snacking on pastries and cakes!

Two. Having no luck with finding a comfortable pair of ripped-at-the-knees black skinny jeans, I DIY-ed my own. I am absolutely in love with them. The knee rips make wearing long pants in HK's humidity a lot more comfortable, and overall they just look good. I'm not scared to admit that I feel like a total badass in them c:

Three. In honour of National Dance Day, I would just like to say that I am loving my dance class at the moment. After so many years of no dance classes, a couple of months ago I took dancing back up. I've forgotten the thrill of dance class; with each lesson I get to improve my technique, learn new routines, and generally have fun. Plus, the additional exercise does no harm! We recently learnt a routine to The Weeknd's 'Can't Feel My Face' and, despite me not being able to spin quick enough within a beat, I'm enjoying everything.

Four. When I came back from Singapore, a group of friends and I went bowling. This was when I found out that my bowling game seriously sucks. I haven't been bowling in forever, so I guess I should cut myself some slack. Even so, a little disappointing considering bowling's fun, I used to be able to strike, and my score would be above 50.

Five. This one's a given, but I've been active on Tumblr everyday. It's strange to think that I've reblogged quite a fair amount already, yet that's only a slither in the Tumblr universe and there's more to come. Not to be all self-promo-y or anything, but check out my Tumblr here! It would be awesome to communicate with you guys and answer any questions.

Six. Last week I got really annoyed with my Essie top coat; the tip wear was ridiculous! I was so done with it, and decided to purchase another bottle of Seche Vite. The ingredients used to make it aren't the best, but it really does work. I'm wearing Sally Hansen's Lacey Lilac right now, and it's held up nicely for a few days already.

Seven. With the endless hours of freedom, I used that time to make things. My better creations out of the lot are a clay bowl, a chevron wire ring, and a crystal bullet choker. I attempted faux druzy pendants, but haven't quite got the grasp of it yet. When I do, I'm pretty sure there'll be a tutorial up on this blog!

Eight. I have been listening to Twenty One Pilots, nonstop. They came to Hong Kong last week and - sob - I didn't go. I regret not going very much as I have really come to love their music. Blurryface is another one of those golden albums; all of the track are favourites of mine. I haven't listened to Vessel enough to add it onto the list, but I am pretty sure in the future it will be on there.

Nine. Though I didn't go to the concert, my sister did. She showed me a few videos and pictures she took, and Tyler Joseph was wearing one of the most gorgeous kimonos I have ever seen. I am currently on the lookout for one like it, so if you have any ideas where I can get one that isn't too expensive, please let me know! And yes, Tyler Joseph's outfit game for the concert was on point. He's been sporting black-grey paint on his arms and neck for his Blurryface alter ego, and it actually works on him. If I ever tried to do that, I would probably end up looking like I fell into the drain!

Ten. The cork board over my desk was getting a bit cluttered, so I revamped it. I updated the polaroid pictures, rearranged my rings, and printed out a few new Tumblr images. That being said, I just couldn't take down Sassy Sangster; his expression is basically me on the inside.

Ahhhhhhh, it was good to get all that off my chest! It's nice to blog about stuff like this; there's no pressure to confine to any structure, and I personally like reading these types of posts. If you're new here, hi, I'm Hazel! All my links are on the sidebar, so go ahead and pop me a message!

Lastly, it turns out that this is my 100th post. Wow. I normally don't really go into too much detail over blog statistics, but in my eyes, 100 posts is a milestone. Thanks for all your support, it really means a lot to me!

I'll see you soon! x

DIY: Tumblr Inspired Clear iPhone 6 Case

tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
Ever since I got my iPhone 6 a few months ago, I've found out that I really like the look of clear cases on it, because the phone's own colour can still be seen. Not surprisingly, phone cases are overwhelmingly expensive and the ones I really like are out of reach. I took matters into my own hands and created several cases, all inspired by my many hours on Tumblr (as mentioned dozens of times). Continue on reading for a quick and easy tutorial!

You will need:
  • PVA glue (a.k.a Mod Podge, Elmer's glue, 白胶浆)
  • a small paintbrush
  • images for your design
  • a clear case
  • scissors
  • something to hold your glue
tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
Let's begin!

1. Find your images and cut them out. I found a dripping yin yang symbol on Google, scaled and sized it on Word, then printed them out.

2. Once your images are cut out, place them on top of your case to map out where you will stick them.

3. Using your paintbrush, apply glue to the top of the image. Stick it onto the underside of your case (where it touches your phone). The glue will dry clear, and your design will be seen through the case.
tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
4. Continue glueing until your design is complete. Leave everything to dry overnight, and you are done!
tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
You can find clear cases online for relatively cheap (I got mine for under $10 each!), so buy a stack and go to town with it. There are endless designs you could do and naturally, I couldn't just create one!
tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
I created the 8-bit speech bubble case in honour of one of my favourite Avenger, and to express my frustration that he is dead (Marvel, kindly revive Quicksilver in the upcoming Civil War please!). I used mixed media for the other case (not really), using a combination of printed images and flash tattoos. One of the great things about this DIY is that you can create a design that compliments your phone colour, or clashes to create a statement. Of course, this isn't only limited to iPhone 6's.
tumblr inspired diy phone case
s
This has got to be one of my favourite DIYs that I've ever done. Phone cases are one of my all-time favourites, so check out my other one here that I did a while back (the format may be different as I wrote it while the blog was still named Love From Icy. Updated links are on the sidebar.)

Hope you enjoyed this post! I'll see you next time! x

DIY: "Cute But Psycho" Pocket Tee

cute but psycho diy t shirt
s
Hey there!

I'm back with another DIY. I gained inspiration for this tee through my many hours on Tumblr (of course) and thought it would be a fun DIY to write a post on. The whole process is relatively easy to do, but the embroidery may take you longer to finish. Anyways, let's get to it!

You will need:

  • a white pocket tee
  • black thread
  • sewing needle
  • chalk marker

1. Write the words onto the pocket using a chalk marker. Personally I had to use a fineliner because the chalk marker wasn't showing up on the material. It washed away easily in the wash afterwards.

s
2. Using your needle and thread, go through the words using a straight stitch. Go back and forth over the letters until you have your desired thickness. I went through the letters three times: from one end to another, back, then again to the other end.

The steps for this DIY are so easy, but getting everything right can be hard. I personally struggled with getting the shapes of the letters right, and trying to get the thickness to be even. But eh, I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome!

I am so sorry for missing out on a post last week, and I know, I was supposed to do my May Favourites. For the past month I've been busy with mock prep, so nothing interesting really went on. But alas, I have a plan! I will combine my May and April Favourites into one video, which will come out next month. Also there is a possibility I will be going on holiday next month, so there may be a few vlogs up on my channel. I had this DIY stored in my drafts folder anyway, so I think everything turned out alright!

Hope you have a lovely day! x

TV Show-Heavy Update

Hello peeps!

I was going to film a video for this week but I honestly didn't know what to film. I was thinking, maybe a tag video would do, but my brain wasn't quite up for it. I want my videos to be entertaining and interesting, and filming them half-heartedly is not what I want to do. A video schedule is not something I have at the moment so I will try to upload when I can.

First thing happened a couple of days ago: In The Flesh was cancelled by BBC 3. I can't express how disappointed I am at this decision. It was truly an amazing show, and the fandom fought very hard to promo it to others and make sure it won the polls from various platforms. To be frank, it kind of sucks considering we were left off at a very dramatic cliff-hanger; now we will never know why they were digging up Amy's body, or what Siren will become. There has been the tag #renewintheflesh floating around Twitter and Tumblr lately, and people are trying to get other networks to notice the show and pick it up. As much as I would absolutely love for that to happen, it is quite unlikely. RIP In The Flesh, you were a fantastic show while you lasted.

#RENEWINTHEFLESH

On the theme of TV shows, Agent Carter premiered early this month and I am IN LOVE. I've always loved culture from the 1900s and the show combines that with the kickass-ery of the MCU. Hayley Atwell is the perfect Peggy Carter, and the other incredible actors compliment her so well. So far only three episodes have come out and apparently only eight in total are going to come out. A HUGE fingers-crossed that the network orders more episodes because it is a really great show. Besides, I can't have another show die out on me; first The Carrie Diaries, Selfie, and now In The Flesh. Argh :-/

“Her trademark look is the red custom ladies Stetson Stratoliner hat, a burst of color in a sea of grey fedoras. Working in man’s world she needed to stand out, and she did that using color in her wardrobe.”
— Giovanna Ottobre-Melton, Costume Designer for Agent Carter (x)
Quick fanart for Agent Carter! Simple but pretty fun to do.
stunning piece of fanart from Tumblr

I've been watching yet another show this month but I want to save it for my monthly favourites! If you know me then you'll probably know what it is ;-)

Yesterday I had a free day to myself so I went around doing some shopping. I don't care to admit how much I actually bought (eep - lots of nail polish!) but maybe I'll do a haul video in the next coming weeks?

Ok, gosh, there is ANOTHER show I've been watching this month, I've just remembered. My lips are sealed for now!

A couple days ago I watched a Meghan Rosette Q&A video where she said she wasn't quite happy with how her channel was; she didn't want to just stick to the beauty and fashion genre. I got me thinking about how I wanted to present my posts and videos. I suppose I don't go into any particular category but I'm actually fine with that. I want to do a bit of everything because I have so many interests and it's fun to try out different things.

Lastly I changed my Tumblr url from icygirl.tumblr.com to runcold.tumblr.com. I haven't been as active as I was during winter break but I do go on every day to reblog a little!

Not much of a post today - my thoughts are all over the place - but just a little update on what's been going on my screen. That's all for today and I'll be back next week! x

DIY: Watercolour Jewellery Dish

Hello there!

Today I have a DIY jewellery dish for you that I have been seeing constantly on Pinterest. The watercolour design makes for a great display piece on where you can organise random bits and bobs. It is not at all hard to make so let's get straight into it!

You will need:
1. nail polishes of your colour choice
2. small white dishes/plates
3. a bowl big enough to put your dish/plate into*
4. paper towels and kebab sticks for cleanup during the making process

I used purple polish for the actual DIY

*sidenote - you will be dropping nail polish into this so make sure it's not a bowl that you use for eating!

1. Fill your bowl 3/4 way with water. Ensure that your dish is clean and has no residue.

2. Place a drop of nail polish into the water, and wait for the drop to spread out and expand. You can speed it up by blowing at the polish drop.

3. Once you have your desired spread-out-ness (totally did not make that phrase up ;-)), dip your dish into the nail polish layer and take it out of the water with a scooping motion. How this all works is that you are making the layer of polish cling to your dish, creating a pretty watercolour effect.

4. Wait for a few minutes for the polish to set, then you can repeat the step above as many times as you want to get the look you desire. This is when you can switch up the colours and layer the polishes. To get rid of the remaining polish on the surface of the water, if any, use a kebab stick to sweep it out.

5. Let your dish dry and set for at least 5 hours. If there are parts of the design that you aren't satisfied with, use nail polish remover to remove it (as you can see from above there are some dots of teal which I removed later). Spray a clear coat after everything is dry.

I love how the nail polish spreads; it creates a wonderfully unique watercolour design. You can use your dish for anything: jewellery, daily essentials, those darn bobby pins and hair ties that keep running away on their own! These jewellery dishes make a great birthday present for a friend, or something for you to keep and display.

Tomorrow is back to school for me from winter break, and I have to say I'm slightly nervous. I am almost certain that when I get back, my brain will be mush and I won't be able to remember anything. Ahhh, the joys of being a teenager!

That's all for today and I'll see you next week xx

August Favourite[s]

Hey guys!

This month has been a blur, from saying goodbye to summer to getting used to the new class schedules. I haven't had much time to take note of favourites these few weeks, but one thing (or is it two?) stood out to me in particular: Guardians of the Galaxy. If you've seen my last post, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Today's post will be dedicated to just that!

New Poster: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
A new trailer is dropping Monday at 1 pm.

Where to start, where to start? I didn't know much about the Guardians as I had never heard of them or seen a comic with them in it. If you asked me last month about 'The Guardians of the Galaxy' from Marvel, I would be like "Wait, what?". Nonetheless, I knew I would definitely be watching this movie because it's a Marvel movie and I'm a Marvel fan. On an ish-unrelated note, I saw this post on tumblr and found it hilarious.

"Marvel movies are just for guys."

Khloe's face doe

So blah blah blah, watched the movie, consumed a Starbucks muffin while doing so. Now on to the gushing part. I can honestly say that GOTG is my favourite Marvel movie so far. For me to say this is huge because I vaguely remember watching The Avengers and thinking "That's my favourite." Even out of the movies that came out/I watched over the summer (Life After Beth, TFIOS, Blended, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past [the X-Men movies don't really count as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe]), I would rank GOTG as number one.

First thing to mention: Chris Pratt. He is such a cool guy! I admire him so much for his decision to lose 60kg for the role as Peter Quill. In an interview, he said that he wanted to play the role of a superhero right, and he had to work hard for it. Super inspiring and he did not disappoint!

BWAHAHAHAHA.

Next is Karen Gillan; she is a total BOSS. I love Nebula so much, even though she's a bad guy. Her makeup fascinates me, with all the hardware embedded into her face. The blue of her skin contrasts the complete black of her eyes, and that's what gives her her evil look. Again, for the actor to play the role they had to make major changes. Karen Gillan could've opted for a bald cap, but instead went all the way and shaved all her hair off. The dedication!

The movie is a perfect combination of wit, humour, action, and awww-ness (I am Groot!). Rocket Racoon's is-it-geniune-is-it-not laugh had me burst out laughing during that scene, and the ending bit, where Ronan was killed, had me on the edge of my seat.

"Twelve percent?" [starts laughing]
"That's a fake laugh.
"It's real!"
"Totally fake!"
"That is the most real, authentic, hysterical laugh of my entire life because THAT IS NOT A PLAN!"

I thought the costumes were on point for this movie. Although the alien-space theme was the focus point, the costumes weren't super cheesy and worn-out; they were bright, fun, and skilfully designed. Same goes to the green screen effects and the spaceships.

The second half to this post would be on the tracks of Guardians of the Galaxy (haha yep, two things) The music is what made GOTG such a good movie. The 'Awesome Mix, Vol. 1' soundtrack is filled with oldies that gives the movie its vintage charm. I love the contrast of BAM BAM BAM to "He's gonna recommend you to the spirit in the skyyyy"; the result is unique and, to put it bluntly, epic. My two favourites out of the soundtrack are 'Cherry Bomb' by The Runaways, and 'Hooked On a Feeling' by Blue Suede. TBH I had never heard of these songs before the movie, and I have really been missing out! Both tracks were played when the Guardians were all in Kyln, and the way 'Cherry Bomb' is played when they have their group walk (every superhero movie has the obligatory group walk/pose which is always my favourite part) is the best. The lyrics totally match the bad-ass don't-mess-with-us vibe.

There was this absolutely brilliant video of the 'Hooked On a Feeling' scene but YouTube has taken it down *sad face*

To say I enjoyed this movie would be a total understatement. It is hands-down the best movie I've watched this summer, possibly this year. As always, I encourage you to go watch it. Actually, no, I am telling you to watch it, not even asking, because asking in this case is irrelevant. WATCH IT :)

guardians of the galaxy

That's it for today. I now have to go do two things: 1. sleep because I am sick but cannot afford to miss school (so many assignments going on!) and 2. get a jacket like Peter Quill's so I can relive the amazing movie that Guardians of the Galaxy is every time I wear it!

Have a good week and I'll talk to you in the next post xx

The Fault In Our Stars

Hey guys :)

Summer is almost over for me, and I go back to school in two weeks. I'm the type of person that likes going school supply shopping, but isn't too keen on the school section of this. Am I the only one?

Anyways, yesterday I finally paused The Sims 3 (my couple recently turned into vampires!), got out of my sweatpants, and, with a friend, watched The Fault In Our Stars.

*moment of fangirl-ness*

First off, I have read the book. I've probably read it twice since I bought it who-knows-when; it may seem few, but the story just stuck to me. It's not an average teens-in-love kind of story, which I see too many of every time I walk into Page One. The characters are witty, open-minded, and grasp the sense of reality.

I thought the movie was brilliant. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort really captured the spirit of Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters. The chemistry between them was genuine, which I must applaud them on, considering they played siblings in Divergent! They share many awwww moments such as:

The Fault in our Stars

Another thing that made the movie so enjoyable is that actual quotes from the book were slipped into the script. Throughout the movie I perked up whenever a quote was said because I could really relate the scene to the book. I like how it stayed true to the book, because the book is beautifully written.

Additionally, little touches made this love story a modern one, such as the little text bubbles that appeared on screen, or the gmail popups.

The first half of the movie contained all of those cute, couple-y moments. However towards the end, I COULD NOT STOP CRYING. Similar to Gwen Stacy's death in TASM2, I knew Augustus' death was coming, but only when that scene played out could I comprehend the situation. It just isn't fair to Hazel to go through more pain, even through her sickness, but as Peter Van Houten wrote, "Pain demands to be felt." Scenes like:

⚜ They say I’m a control freak.. ⚜

"You know how i know you’re a fighter? You called a ten a nine." But that wasn’t quite right, I called it a nine because i was saving my ten. And here it was, the great and terrible ten."

I wanted to sob out loud, but you know, dignity, dignity.

A few other things worth mentioning:
  • the scenery in Amsterdam was stunning
  • the soundtrack is addictive, especially Ed Sheeran's 'All Of The Stars' and Charli XCX's 'Boom Clap'

Last thing before I wrap it up: Isaac is such an under-rated character. People mainly focus on Hazel and Gus, but I keep thinking about the relationship between Isaac and Gus. Isaac has it pretty tough: he loses his sight, his girlfriend, then his best friend :(

“When the scientists of the future show up at my house with robot eyes and they tell me to try them on, I will tell the scientists to screw off, because I do not want to see a world without him.”

Well, there you have it: what I think about the "The Fault In Our Stars" movie. If the message isn't clear, I love it and you should watch it (with at least a pack of tissues in an easily-accessible place so you can reach for one during the movie)!

Before I start crying about the movie again, I'm going to end with one of my favourite quotes from the book:

Have a good day and I'll see you soon x

July Favourites

Hey guys!

We're now edging towards the end of July so it means it's time for another Monthly Favourites!

Music favourites

1. "Something I Need" by OneRepublic
I really enjoyed "Counting Stars" but was over hearing it everywhere, so I decided to explore more into OneRepublic's 'Native'. "Something I Need" is one of my favourite tracks off that album, and although I knew about it for a little while, only now has the obsession kicked in.

3. "To Build A Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra
When I first heard this song in 'Step Up Revolution', I fell in love. The dance was incredible, and the song is too. There are many layers to the texture, and I like how a sort of tension is built up throughout the song.

3. "The Moon Song" by Karen O
This is the number one song on my 'Sleep' playlist. It's such a romantic, slow song that gets you to sleep in a good way, not an ugh-it's-so-boring way.

Oh, and do be sure to check out this couple's cover of the song. The fact that they specially wore vintage-y clothing for this video makes it even more special!

TheNerdandtheBird on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheNerdandtheBird/videos
I apologise for not inserting the video right here, but the YouTube search engine for blogger cannot seem to find it :(
Make sure you go subscribe to their channel, they don't upload that often but when they do you won't be disappointed!

Saving the best for last...

4. "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainor
OHMYGOSH. The first time I heard it, the song blew me away. The first time I downloaded it, I had to listen to it three times in a row for it to sink in. The lyrics are meaningful, but not too serious; the beat is pretty catchy, and the music video is so lively ((it's all like *pink Barbie explosion*) (is Lime Crime involved with it?)). Honestly I can't even begin to describe how much I adore this song, so listen to it yourself down below :)

Other favourites

1. This pair of shoes
I bought this pair of shoes from H&M towards the end of last month, intending to wear them for school. They turned out to be extremely comfortable, and I am actually obsessed with the style. I do quite like laceups, but what really had me wearing these out of school on numerous occasions is the material that they are made of. The picture isn't clear on capturing it, but they are made out up this subtle crochet material. The textile itself it nice and soft, not scratchy.

From far away, they seem like plain black laceups, but up close you can see the crochet detail. With the style and material, these shoes are a little bit girly, a little boho, and slightly preppy. They are perfect for me because I feel that I haven't developed my own style yet. I love these shoes SO much that I even picked up another pair for when this one breaks!

2. The Sims 3
I have always been a fan of The Sims; there is something strangely interesting in controlling the people of a town! My sister helped me find this hidden gem in HK Records early this month and I snapped it up as this was the last copy. The Sims 3 is not much different to The Sims 2, which I used to play, but I have no experience with any of the extension packs, so I am still trying to figure those out.

3. This pouch
This month I visited Ocean Park with a group of friends and carried smaller bags. The one thing they both have in common: they require a small purse because 1. a big purse is far too much hassle and 2. I haven't got space for anything chunky (I adore my purse but in some ways it resembles a brick). I picked this pouch up from Cotton On during a shopping trip with one of my friends, and it has been a lifesaver. It is big enough to fit all the necessities like cash, my octopus card, I.D. card, and student card, yet small and slim enough to slip into a crossbody. The neon pink contrasts nicely against the metallic grunge-y silver, and for $39 I thought it was a good purchase.

4. My Mac
For several years have I wanted a Mac, for several reasons such as the sleek chrome design, the software much more compatible with my iPhone, and all of the useful apps that come along with it. I also prefer the interface of Macs than to PCs, and the quality of the resolution is much better.

It is currently 12:44 am; I started typing this post up two and a half hours ago and my battery is about to die, but I finally got it done!

Going along the theme of "All About That Bass"~

And by 'it', I mean all the negative things, whether it be haters, unhappiness, stress, or even 'stick-figure silicone Barbie dolls'. Stay happy!

See you here next week for mini posts on weekdays and a main post on Sunday xx

Summer Tag

Hey guys!

As you may know, we're now in the middle of summer! I thought it would be fun to do a tag, since I haven't done one in a few weeks. Apparently there was a spring tag that I did not know of, so as compensation I will answer questions from the summer tag!

Summer

This tag is from the blog Hollisters Happenings (or Hollistershappenings) so make sure you check it out.

Let's start!

1. What is the best part about summer?
I love the sunshine during the summer, especially on those days when the sky is blue. Most of the time the sky in Hong Kong is all muggy and horrible, so on those where the sky is clear, I savour the sunlight.

2. Do you tan or burn?
I tan, but my face gets red super easily when in contact with warmth.

3. Favourite summer nail polish?
Summer is a time for bright nail polish, and I really like "Kiss Me On My Tulips" my OPI. The formula is great, it's fully opaque in two coats, and it doesn't take forever to dry!

4. Favourite summer drink/beverage?
Recently I have been drinking this Japanese milk that tastes like coffee. It's nice and refreshing, especially when chilled.

5. Favourite summer clothing item?
Skirts all the way! I know you can wear skirts in the winter as well, but they don't keep you warm enough. I own several skirts in different colours and patterns, all circle skirts which I wear high-waisted.

6. Favourite current app during this summer?
Lately I've been using Snapchat more often. I find the concept of it really handy and fun.

7. Favourite summer movie?
I don't have a favourite movie for the summer, to be honest. However, I have yet to watch "The Fault In Our Stars" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" this summer, so that might change.

8. Favourite summer beauty product?
Are hair products counted as beauty products? Anyways, I love sea salt spray during the summer because you get nice texture and waves without having to physically go to the beach every day. I am currently using the Professional Ocean Spritz Sea Salt Spray, which I picked up in Bonjour. It has a smell that's hard to describe, but it smells pretty good.

9. Favourite summer activity?
No particular favourite, but I like going bowling or swimming.

10. Favourite type of lip product for the summer?
Lip balm, always. Personally I've never had sunburnt lips, but I slather on coats of lip balm during the summer to avoid them. The one I am using right now is the peppermint Burt's Bees lip balm. I also like tinted lip balms, such as Maybelline's Baby Lips in Berry Bomb.

So those are my answers! I tag anyone who reads this to complete this tag, so have fun with it.

And have fun during this summer; stay safe and be happy.

See you xx

I'm Back!

Oh hey :)

First things first: I took a break from posting (can I call it blogging yet?) for a little while, out of respect because my grandpa recently passed away. He was an extremely caring person, to his family and group of students whom he taught. He will be missed greatly and I hope he rests in peace.

But now I'm back! I will have more time to blog since it's summer, and I hope during this time I can post a few posts during the week, instead of merely one post every week.

This will probably the shortest post yet as I don't have anything in particular planned. Just make sure you check the blog during the coming weeks as there may be new posts!

To end things on a positive note:

one of my favourite pictures ever, a good mantra to live by :)

See you guys later xx

DIY: Collage Phone Case

Hey guys :)

First off, the past few weeks I have been crazy-busy with science revision. I did the end-of-year assessent a few days ago and now I feel FREE.

But tomorrow I have a Chinese exam. Whyyyyy.

Secondly, happy Father's Day to all dads out there! I would like to thank my dad for being supportive of everything that I do, and I love him very much! Unfortunately he wasn't here today to celebrate with us as he's on a business trip, but I send my love

Anyways, I have not done a DIY in almost two months! Today I have a DIY collage phone case, inspired by my many hours of procrastination on tumblr. I have been obsessively going through my dashboard, clicking through hashtags, reblogging, the usual jist on tumblr :)

Let's get started!

You will need:
1. Microsoft Word (or any other program where you can arrange photos)
2. pictures of your choice
3. a clear phone case
4. a cutter and cutting mat
5. a pencil and ruler

1. Firstly, you've got to find the pictures you want for your collage. You can use any: personal pics of you and your friends or family, photography, patterns... I like to search up 'grunge', 'vintage', 'indie' and 'girly' on tumblr; they usually give me the best results. You can check out my tumblr for inspo http://icygirl79.tumblr.com/ ;) Check out We Heart It and Pinterest, they have cool pics on them too. Remember to choose pics with a higher resolution or when you print them out they'll be super pixelated.

2. Start up Microsoft Word or your choice of program and open up a blank page. You'll want to change the size of the page to fit your phone. I have a iPhone 5S so I made my page 6.4 cm by 12.9 cm. If you have a different device, measure your device's length and width, then add a few millimeters to both numbers, just to give yourself some room when you start cutting.

3. Print it out and you'll be ready to start.

4. There are several ways in which you can get the shape that you need. One, you can directly trace your device onto the collage. The second way is only if your case came with a paper structure in the shape of your device. In my case (no pun intended!) it did, so I used that to trace.

5. So you've got the shape done. Next you'll have to cut the camera hole. With your case, line the collage up to the appropriate place and trace the hole. Use a cutter to cut it out.

6. Fit the collage into the case and you're done!

This DIY is definitely my favourite out of all the other ones I've done! I love how you can customize all the pictures. I made another collage and a few other designs with a single larger image.

If you choose to recreate this, I would absolutely love to see it! You can instagram it and tag me @icygirl79, tweet me @icygirl79, or message me on tumblr (link is above) :)

Hope you've enjoyed today's post! That's all for today, have a good day/night!
