March Favourites

s
February flew past so quickly, it was only yesterday I realised that I had to complete my monthly favourites! I switched to filming my favourites a few months ago, but I thought I would take it back and write a post for you today. Here's everything I've been loving throughout February!
s
Crossbody from Forever 21 - I picked this bag up during this month, and it quickly became one of my favourite bags. I don't own any other brown bags so I thought it would be nice to purchase. It's the perfect size; small enough as a cross body, and big enough for all the essentials. The design reminded me a little of a Rebecca Minkoff bag, so maybe that's why I like it so much!
Urbanears headphones - I bought this pair of headphones last month as a birthday present to myself. The colour is a lot like Essie's 'DJ Play That Song' - a nice bright, jammy purple - and the quality is pretty good. They come in handy when I'm studying or editing a video, because they block most unwanted noise out.
Cool Amazon Rain shower gel from Bath and Body Works - After smelling this scent in Dudes, I was hooked. I decided to go for the travel size bottle first to try it out, and I really like it! It smells of coconut and mango, and is very refreshing on the skin. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go back soon and pick up a full size.
'Stand By Your Gun' by George Ezra - This track is sooo addicting; it's been stuck in my head for quite a while now. George Ezra is a pretty amazing artist overall and I love his music!
Ed Sheeran - Ever since going to his concert early this month, I now have a much deeper appreciation for his music and songs. I mentioned 'Photograph' last month and a few others previously, but most of March was 'Drunk' and the rest of '+' on repeat. There was definitely a different vibe on his first album and I quite like it. Praise Ginger Jesus!
Revlon ColourBurst Laquer Balm in 105 Demure - A very pretty pinky peach shade with a hint of shimmer, this balm is my go-to lip product. It's kind of a 'my lips but better' colour, not too in-your-face, and easy to work with. I've found myself reaching for this every time I go out.
Willow Shields on Dancing With the Stars - I find it so cool that there are so many people out there who are younger than me and have achieved amazing things. Willow Shields joined season 20 of DWTS and is so far killing it! She has all the moves down and I'm excited to see how she progresses throughout the season.

How are you all liking the new template? I'm pretty happy with it so far and I hope you are too!

See you! x

Update 2.0

Horse Zone

So you may have noticed some slight changes here...

I decided to give my blog and fresh start. Again. I wasn't as happy as I hoped I would be with the new layout. It was fun at first, but then, to be honest, I got a little tired of it. I thought to myself, is this how you want to present yourself? Sadly, the answer was no. I thought it would be best to start from the beginning with a clean, simple format.

The same goes for my blog name. Love From Icy was a name I quickly thought up back in 2013 when I started the blog, based on the username I created for myself when I was seven. I contemplated changing to Cat Eyes and Glitter Bombs before the blog's first birthday, but I decided to focus on the layout. Now, I finally feel that I'm taking charge of all this and really making it me.

I've been playing around with the layout and realised that vertical pictures are not like by the template. They may appear funny in older posts, so bear with me.

Because I'm still in the process of changing things, my Bloglovin plugin's not working right now. I'll try my best to have it fixed by the end of the week, but till then check out my other social media on the side bar! (sneaky little self promo there ;))

The url has changed as well. I have disabled the old one (lovefromicy.blogspot.hk) and you are now on the new one.

Now that I've addressed everything, it's time for me return to studying Stalinist Russia. iGCSE pre-mocks are kicking my butt right now!

I'll see you later! x

Goodbye Glee

*warning* spoilers and a long read ahead!

When Glee started in 2009, I was oblivious to what it was; I mean, I was nine. My older sister started watching it and that sparked my interest. I started from season 2 and since then, it has been a rollercoaster. Glee aired its final 2 hour episode on Friday (HK time), finishing season 6.

Glee was a show that taught me about issues, such as homosexuality and bullying. I got an insight on how victims felt going through those problems and learnt to empathise. It's a lot easier learning something by going through the whole process, so maybe that's why I understand it a little better than I expect.

The show may have triggered my fangirlism, as I remember feeling a surge of happiness when Klaine got together. Kurt had been pining over this incredibly cool and popular Warbler with his slicked-back hair, and Blaine finally noticed him. The term 'OTP' was not yet known by me, but if I had known it I would be screaming it from the rooftops. Other OPTs from the show include Rachel and Finn, and Mason and Jane.

Each season's storylines kept me interested and entertained. They introduced new and recurring characters to freshen up the show, such as Holly Holliday, Jesse St. James, and Jake Puckerman. When Cory Monteith passed away, I was genuinely shocked and sad. The show lost it's footing a bit at that point, with everybody dropping out of whatever they were doing and returning home. I'm happy that everyone got back together, refreshed, and got back out there!

My favourite characters throughout the show are Mike Chang, Sebastian Smythe, Spencer Porter, and Madison and Mason McCarthy. First, Mike. Harry Shum Jr. is an INCREDIBLE dancer! My favourite performance of his is definitely 'Valerie', where he did a paired dance with Brittany (Heather Morris). What I liked about his storyline is that he joined the Glee club as mainly a dancer, and a background voice. He was hesitant to sing solos, and I can kind of relate; I would definitely prefer to dance than sing.

Next, Sebastian. Oh, that snarky, flirty Warbler! It's no surprise that I love Grant Gustin, and seeing him dance and sing is a dream come true. He was the perfect baddie but I'm glad towards the end of his appearance he gained redemption. I like him more as a good guy, to be honest, but maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing him as a hero in The Flash!

Spencer was one of the newer characters but his personality stood out. He's tough and aggressive on the outside, but a total softie inside. What makes me like him so much is that he doesn't take crap from anyone, and he stood up for Roderick when he was dealing with his problems. Spencer is definitely someone I would like to befriend in real life.

Lastly, the twins. Their relationship is rock-hard, voices too good to be true, and I want to be related to them. They brought out a certain vibe to the last few episodes of Glee: understated coolness. Madison and Mason weren't always in the center of attention, but they were always noticeable. Quirky and fun, they make me smile every episode.

Songs and covers are one of the biggest parts of Glee. In total they have performed over 700 songs (746 to be exact!). Out of that amount, naturally I have a list of favourites. In no particular order of season, episode or ranking:
  • Smooth Criminal - Santana and Sebastian
  • Everybody Talks - Kitty and Jake
  • Home - Cast
  • Without You - Rachel
  • Valerie - New Directions
  • No Air - Cast
  • Uptown Girls - The Warblers
  • I Want to Break Free - Mason
  • Chandelier - New Directions

My favourite voices would have to be Santana's, Madison's and Blaine's. They all have very distinct voices and I have enjoyed their songs throughout the show (along with everybody else's of course!).

I will particularly miss the newbies of the show. I feel like they didn't get enough screen time and have so much potential. A spin-off show maybe...? (hint hint)

Friday's episode showed the New Directions winning Nationals and flashed forward to the future: McKinley High becomes a performing arts school; Sue is vice-president; Rachel is pregnant with Klaine's baby; she's married to Jesse; she receives a Tony award (!) and dedicates it to Mr Shue; Mr Shue's principal; Mercedes is opening for Beyonce; Tina and Artie are together; everyone is happy.

This episode was definitely a tear-jerker, seeing everyone come back and perform one last time. So many memories were running through my head, and I felt that 'I Lived' was the perfect song to end on.

Overall, I will definitely miss the show. Thank you, Glee, for your amazing six years!

February Favourites

How are you all today?

I am currently battling the frizz that comes with Hong Kong's humidity. Spring is supposedly about blooming flowers, clear skies, and fresh-air-whatnot; instead we get wet walls, never-drying towels, and an icky feeling on our skin. Fun!

Finally I have come round to do my favourites video for February. I feel like I talked a lot in the video, but I had a chat bottled up inside me; now it's released into the world for you guys!

I'll see you next week! x

Ed Sheeran Concert + Concert OOTD

Hey guys!

I'm here with another sneaky little midweek post :) Yesterday my friends and I went to an Ed Sheeran concert! I vlogged parts of the day and the video is now up on my channel.

It was seriously a fantastic concert. The only other concert I've ever been to is a Taylor Swift one when she came in 2010. However this time I felt more in the spirit because it was an all-standing show. The atmosphere was crazy, people were very hyped up, and I loved every moment of it!

Dressing for the concert was, to be honest, a little hard. I had to be comfortable, be able to dance, and had to be covered up as at night the temperature dropped to 16 ΒΊc! Here's what I wore:

Top - online
Pants - H&M
Shoes - Toms
Bag - Forever 21
Sunglasses - Forever 21
Rings - H&M
Hand chain - Accessorize
(I forgot to include it in the pictures but I brought along with me a grey hoodie from H&M)

I'm quite enjoying doing vlogs at the moment. I want to know what you guys think of them. Do you like them? Despise them? Let me know down in the comments!

That's all for today and I'll see you later x

24 hr Climbathon

Hey guys!

I truly apologise for not keeping my word and filming my February Favourites this week. I filmed a vlog instead, because I had a 24 hr Climbathon charity event and thought it would be interesting to vlog about. Vlogging was quite fun, and I hope to do it again some time! Anyways, I was going to film my favourites on Saturday but was too exhausted to do so. Hope you enjoy the vlog instead :)

I'll see you next week! x

The BRIT Awards 2015 | Favourite Looks

Hey there!

I thought I would do another 'Favourite Looks' post since The BRIT Awards took place earlier this week, and some of the looks were very nice indeed! I don't actually watch the show because with all the time differences I can never tell when it's on. But, I do like to catch the fashion and see who sported what on the red carpet. Here are my favourite looks!

1. George Ezra in ?
His songs have been stuck in my head and on repeat for most of February. I absolutely love his voice; it's so unique and his vocal range is pretty impressive. All of his live performances are so good! He went simple for The BRITs but was very classy in a monochrome suit and button up.

2. Karlie Kloss in Tom Ford
Going along the monochrome theme, Karlie Kloss stunned in a figure-hugging Tom Ford piece with cutouts at the collarbone. Again, simple but gorgeous. Makeup was simple and that directed the attention to her dress.

3. Grace Chatto in ?
I love her pink hair. Just had to get that out there first! Paired well with her monochrome outfit (hmm a trend?) and daringly pulled off with her bold red lips.

4. Ella Henderson in Katie Ermilio
Ok, it's official, monochrome was a favourite on the red carpet that day! Ella Henderson opted for a long sleeved dress with a long tail, accessorising with a necklace-body chain piece.

There have been many comments on Ella Henderson's losing face when she lost to Paloma Faith for the British Female Solo Artist Award. I personally think people shouldn't be so hard on Ella. I mean, who wouldn't be disappointed? It's a completely normal thing to do and some people just want to complicate things. Nonetheless, Paloma Faith totally deserved her award and congrats to the other nominees as well!

5. Dan Howell and Phil Lester
I couldn't resist including them in the list. Phil's plaid suit was really snazzy, and Dan kept it simple in monochrome (definitely a trend!). Love the silver lining on Dan's blazer, it was a nice little touch.

I plan to film and upload my monthly favourites video for next week, and maybe a haul post the week after that, so make sure you don't miss out by following Love From Icy on Bloglovin or by email!
